My first day in India

This is originally from my previous facebook group ‘India ’08,’ in which I sent messages to friends about my travels with Carpe Diem through India. This post was not originally associated with this blog, but I have put it up here in the correct date. As you can see, my writing is not quite up to par with what it is now 🙂 But I thought you readers would still find it informative and entertaining.

About this post: This was my first day ever traveling. Ever.

Hello everyone! I’m trying to get used to this computer so bear with me
here if there’s a few misspells.

We just got in this morning after a 24 hour day of traveling and I don’t
feel the least bit tired. This is by far the most INSANE place I’ve ever
been to. I can’t even explain it, I wish I could, you’d just have to be
here to see it. Everyone that’s going are all really nice and chill people
who I like a lot. We all are very straight and honest with each other
about our lives and what we want out of this trip. We all seem to have the
same common theme that we’re very open to new experiences.
When we first got off of the airplane, after an 11 hour flight and then an
8 hour flight, which was so long it was almost unbearable, we were all
wide-eyed and totally excited to see India. We all piled into these tiny cabs and took off down the freeway. I was surprised
the roads were so developed. We saw all of these monkeys along the way in
the trees, and we almost hit a car or a bike or a bus about 10 times, I
mean literally I was certain we were going to crash. The people that drive
here are c.r.a.z.y. It’s like everyone blatantly ignores the painted lanes and it’s this huge jumbled mess.

We finally pulled up to the hostel we’re staying at and
there were just a bunch of cows chilling in the middle of the street, it
was hilarious to see amidst all of these cars and rickshaws.

We finally
checked into the hostel- The leaders
are both very nice, especially Dan, who knows a lot about India. We all
ate in this really good restaurant, of course I had dal and naan, I doubt many of you know what that means but it was very good. We wandered around
the streets for awhile afterwards, just seeing New Delhi. Our hostel is I guess, supposed to be ‘modern’ with a fan and a tv, that both don’t work. They’re also doing construction on the building and two of the people in our group have to jump over a gaping hole to get to their room.
All in all, It really is the most insane place
I’ve ever seen. I think I’m going to really enjoy my time here, I mean the streets are crazy, but the roof of the hostel is very peaceful and so far everyone
really likes one another, so I’m having a great time. In a few days I leave for Varanasi so I’m not sure what the internet situation is there- just letting everyone know that I’m HERE for real and in the craziest surreal dream I’ve ever experienced.

Peace from the middle east,
